Scientific students’ camp in Drawno Forest District

As a part of the Interreg IVA project: “Development of trans-border decision support system for remote and model assessment  of forest dendromass in Pomerania Region”, in september 2011 in Drawno Forest District took place scientific students’ camp of Forestry Students Association from Faculty of Forestry in Poznań University of Life Sciences. During two weeks sixteen students had possibility to participate in scientific researches about estimating biomass of Scots Pine (Pinus Sylvestris L.). It has been done: measurements and classify of trees in the sample plots, assign the model trees, scan of the model trees using terrestrial laser scanner, cut down the model trees and measurements of their fractions. In the time of the camp students had opportunity to get some knowledge about using new technologies in field measurements like work with terrestrial laser scanner, robotic total station or GNNS Receiver.

We met there many guests: Dean of the Faculty of Forestry from Warsaw University of Life Sciences-SGGW, Michał Zasada; Vice-director of Institute of Dendrology, the Polish Academy of Sciences, Andrzej M. Jagodziński; Delegation from The Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Szczecin and Drawno Forest District with Włodzimierz Racławski – Forest District Manager. We hosted also Specialist from TPI (Poznań), Marek Krysztofiak; GIS Specialists from ESRI Polska, Marta Samulowska and Tomasz Letmański.

Through whole two weeks of the scientific camp we collected samples of twenty model trees. In 2012 we are going to realise another scientific camps.
