Aircraft remote sensing completed!

Forests in District Drawno have been scanned with use of cutting-edge technology: aitcraft laser scanning let to make an image of 3D forest of vast area. 3D forest model of high resolution (4-16 points per m2) was made for whole forest district. Additionally, satellite images, aerial pictures and images from thermographic camera (infrared camera) were taken. Selected forest roads were scanned with laser from a car (MMS). Most advanced technology as a system was applied succesfully in the Polish forests.

On Tuesday, 13 December 2011, in Sczecin, seminar was organised by Poznań University of Life Sciences (Faculty of Forestry) and Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Szczecin. The objective of the seminar was to discuss succesful aircraft scanning and other remote technology used in Forest District Drawno. In the seminar decission-making representatives of varius institutions took part.  Members of the State Forests, Regional Office in Szczecin, Forest Inventory, private companies dealing with teledetection and geodesy (GISPRO, TPI), scientists and project members as well as journalists actively participated in discussion about versatile use of advanced technology.

Witold Koss, Director of the Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Szczecin welcomed all participants. Efficient cooperation was in focus of Romad Gornowicz, Prof. Dr. Hab., Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Poznań University of Life Sciences: "Achieved valuable results are possible thanks to mutual cooperation of science and practice in international environment".

After presentations concerning aircraft scanning, representative of TPI Poznań presented latest terrestrial laser scanner by FARO. GISPRO representatives characterised new solutions for mobile laser scanning (MMS).
