PULS and The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity play together
On January 25, the Poznań International Fair hosted the Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, where the Poznań University of Life Sciences (PULS) once again made an active contribution to this unique event. For years, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity has been bringing together millions of people across Poland in a joint effort to promote the health and safety of patients, with a special focus on children. This year, we played to raise funds for pediatric gastroenterology.
The PULS stand invited visitors to the fascinating world of science and nature, offering them the opportunity to take part in numerous exciting activities, including:
- DNA isolation from onions,
- pH measurements using red cabbage juice,
- presentations of substances that glow in the dark,
- talks and practical tips on food technology,
- body composition measurements,
- animal track identification,
- face-to-face encounter with a hawk.
The PULS puppet, Guga, was also there, entertaining visitors and being the centre of attention, especially among the youngest participants of the event.
A notable aspect of PULS' participation in this year's Finale was the live auction of a unique European larch of the “Warcino” variety – a specimen of exceptional scientific and collector's value, unavailable in regular sale. The rights to this strain belong to the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at the Poznań University of Life Sciences. The strain was discovered in 2016 in the Warcino Forest District, and the maternal tree specimen still grows in the PULS Dendrological Garden. The tree was auctioned off for PLN 1,100, and the entire amount was donated to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who visited our stand, took part in the attractions, and supported this valuable mission along with us. We keep playing until the end of the world and one day more!
