“ŚWIERK” – a new meeting place for students

11.05.2026

A new gathering place for students has emerged on the academic scene at Poznań University of Life Sciences: the “Świerk” student club, which opened in the “Maćko” dormitory. This space has the potential to become a hub for student socializing, culture, and creative activities.

“Świerk” was officially opened on May 5 of this year. The event was attended by university and faculty authorities, as well as students. The symbolic opening was performed by PULS Rector Prof. Krzysztof Szoszkiewicz and Bartosz Dzierla – President of the Student Government Council. The ceremony was graced by a concert by a jazz band, whose music filled the new spaces.

Although this marks a completely new chapter in academic life, it is hard not to view this place through the lens of the rich history of student culture. The memory of the student clubs in Winogrady, including the legendary Nurt Club, remains an important point of reference. It was there that social life thrived and many students’ first artistic experiences took root. Will “Świerk” become a similar space for future generations?

Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the need for gatherings has not disappeared. Today, it returns in a new form. “Świerk” is intended to be a space open to student initiatives, a venue for concerts, debates, cultural events and grassroots projects that draw on the best traditions of academic life. At the same time, the community centre will forge its own identity, responding to the needs of future generations of students and their contemporary forms of engagement.
