How can we bring urban rivers back to life? Apply for the Summer School 2026! Applications due May 15th!

We invite students to participate in the International and Interdisciplinary Summer School of Urban River Renaturation 2026, which will take place from June 29 to July 3, 2026 at the John the Evangelist Purkyni University in Ústí nad Labem (Czech Republic).

During the classes, participants will have the opportunity to learn about issues related to the implementation of nature-based solutions. The programme also addresses issues such as the limited space available in urban areas, the complex relationship of land ownership and the need to take into account different stakeholder groups. The initiative is part of the ReBioClim project, which is financed under the Interreg Central Europe program, implemented at the Faculty of Environmental and Mechanical Engineering of the Poznań University of Life Sciences.

The main organisers of the event are the Institute of Economic and Environmental Policy and the Department of Geography of the University of Ústí nad Labem and our PULS together with the Technical University of Dresden, the Leibniz Institute for Ecology and Regional Development, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava and the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is one of the co-organisers.

During the school, field visits are planned in Ústí nad Labem, which will become the basis for further design work. In international and interdisciplinary teams, students will develop concepts to increase biodiversity and improve the functioning of riverside zones, taking into account both ecological, social and spatial issues. The prepared proposals will be analysed and evaluated in terms of the possibility of their subsequent implementation.

At the end of the school, a collection of studies will be created, which can serve as examples of good practices in the field of restoration of urban rivers. The way classes are conducted combines expert lectures, field activities and project work. Thanks to this, participants have the opportunity to gain experience in a work environment that is both interdisciplinary and international.
