Wykład pt. “Therapeutic targeting of classical homocystinuria: from chaperones to enzyme replacement and back”
Zapraszamy serdecznie na wykład pt. “Therapeutic targeting of classical homocystinuria: from chaperones to enzyme replacement and back”, który wygłosi dr Tomas Majtan z Katedry Farmakologii Uniwersytetu we Fryburgu.
Dr Tomas Majtan is an Assistant Professor at the Section of Pharmacology, University of Fribourg, whose research focuses on sulfur amino acid metabolism, particularly on molecular basis and treatment of cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS)-deficient homocystinuria (HCU). He earned his PharmD from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia in 2003, his PhD in Molecular Biology from the Slovak Academy of Sciences in 2006, followed by postdoctoral training in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado, where he later served as Assistant Research Professor. In 2026, he was awarded DSc in Pharmacology from the Slovak Academy of Sciences. His work has made significant contributions to understanding metabolism of sulfur amino acids and hydrogen sulfide in health and disease, CBS structure, regulation and homeostasis in HCU. He developed enzyme replacement therapy for HCU currently in phase 3 clinical trials and continues advancing therapeutic strategies for HCU and inherited metabolic disorders of sulfur metabolism. Dr. Majtan has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed articles, holds multiple patents, has mentored numerous trainees, and currently leads several publicly and privately funded research projects.
